New hybrid for Kaizer Meadow

By Alana Lojek

CHESTER--The Solid Waste Management Facility at Kaizer Meadow has recently acquired a new hybrid vehicle.
"It's going to work really well for us," says Solid Waste Manager David Daniels. According to Mr. Daniels, one of the main factors that led to the purchase was the requirement of "an additional vehicle at the site for multi-purpose uses." Previously, the facility has used pickup trucks, which obviously cannot seat more than a couple people at a time. This presented a problem… Continue

Forbidden Love
by Lisa Cochrane

A few years ago I was engaged in a relationship of the most covert nature, something I would never have seen myself doing until I began living alone in the middle of nowhere. Our animal attraction began innocently enough as a mild, neighbourly flirtation. He was dark and handsome and casually came and went through my life for months after I moved here. Then it happened. We just connected. I looked around to see if anyone was watching us then quickly invited him u… Continue

Unable to ignore the crisis

By Tyler Brown

UPPER TANTALLON - When disaster struck a world away, local students were only too happy to dig into their wallets to try and help. Last month’s Haitian earthquake killed over 120,000 people and left untold numbers homeless and without food and water.

Sir John A. Macdonald student Tamara Oake, unable to ignore the humanitarian crisis, set out to help.

Upon hearing of the disaster, Oake and a small group of like-minded friends took up a contribution, eventually collecting over $… Continue

Dear Steve,

It means it’s you, dear.

Better luck next time.

Yours,
Olive Bean

Dear Olive,

I’m 34 years old and I’ve been engaged to Brian since the 26th of August, 2009. Even though Brian is a great guy - committed, loyal and loving, I am starting to get cold feet. I know love has its ups… Continue

Black Tomatoes – The Dark Side of the Garden

Tomato lovers are discovering a secret that heirloom gardeners have known for years. Black tomatoes are among the finest tasting tomatoes in the world. Typically, black tomatoes boast a complex flavour that blends smoky sweetness with mild tartness. Some describe it as intense, while others often call it earthy.
Like many other ‘black’ plants, black tomatoes are not truly black. The fruits that fall under the spectrum of black tomatoes encompass a ra… Continue

Auditor General finds inappropriate MLA spending

I haven't read much, if any real news from or about our new MLA since the election (here or in the other community paper for that matter). I sure hope the Auditor General's report inspires either a Clipper reporter or her office to let all of us Chester-St.Margaret's tax payers know where she stands, and hopefully, that she had no part in these shameful shenanigans.

Dentistry for tots is a fairy tale

By Fred Lawrence

Last fall our youngest daughter, who is three, developed a toothache. After a trip to our family dentist we were informed children of that early age can only be helped by one of a small group of specialists in the entire province.
The earliest appointment was made for late February, but we called numerous times and managed to get her in on a cancellation day January 26. The agony the poor child went through was pitiful and as parents we felt… Continue
